What Changed on Valencia's Weekend Map This Summer
For years, "let's go to the mall" was shorthand for a Valencia Saturday. Dinner at the food court, a movie at Regal, maybe a lap through Macy's. That default no longer describes what's actually happening in Valencia this summer. The Town Center is in the middle of a phased teardown-and-rebuild, several of its future anchors haven't opened yet, and the weekend energy locals used to spend there has quietly redistributed across three other places within a two-mile radius. If you're planning around the old map, you're going to lose Saturdays.
Here's the shift, and how to plan around it through August.
The mall you knew is being rebuilt around you. Centennial, the Dallas-based developer that purchased Valencia Town Center in 2023, announced plans to add more than 175,000 square feet of new dining, entertainment and lifestyle destinations at the mall. The new tenants are scheduled to open in phases throughout 2026 and 2027, with several marquee locations debuting this summer.
That "in phases" is the operative detail. Some tenants are already welcoming guests. Others are a year out. What's arriving:
Bushfire Kitchen rounds out the food side. The GM framing is worth paying attention to because it tells you what the mall is trying to become. "We aren't just adding stores; we are curating experiences," said Michael de Leon, General Manager of Valencia Town Center. "From the high-energy gaming at Round1 to the communal dining of KPOT, these brands reflect the vibrant, family-oriented energy of Santa Clarita."
The takeaway for a resident: the Town Center in July and August 2026 is a partial destination. Some new tenants are worth a trip. The full transformation, especially Round1, is still a year out.
The most concrete change to weekend dinner plans this summer isn't at the mall at all. It's at River Oaks Shopping Center on Magic Mountain Parkway, where the old Mimi's Cafe site has been replaced.
Darden Restaurants, the parent company of Yard House, is bringing the popular American restaurant chain to the former site of Mimi's Cafe on Magic Mountain Parkway, marking the completion of a redevelopment project that has been in the works since last year. The project included the demolition of the previous Mimi's Cafe building and construction of a brand-new space designed specifically for Yard House. City officials previously confirmed the approved plans as part of ongoing efforts to refresh and revitalize the River Oaks commercial area. The doors opened Sunday, April 19, 2026. Yard House is known for its extensive menu of American fusion cuisine and one of the largest selections of draft beer in the country, making it a popular destination for casual dining and nightlife.
Yard House is the sit-down anchor. The fast-casual anchor arrived on the other side of the area: CAVA, a fast casual Mediterranean restaurant that has become extremely popular throughout Southern California. The new Valencia location offers customizable bowls, salads, and pita wraps featuring fresh ingredients and Mediterranean flavors. The opening has already attracted strong interest from Santa Clarita residents looking for healthy and convenient dining options. Texas Roadhouse and Dutch Bros Coffee are also in the 2026 pipeline for the broader area.
The practical read: if your Saturday used to end at the food court, it now ends at River Oaks. Reservations for Yard House on concert Saturdays are the current tell that the shift has stuck.
The single biggest reason to rework your calendar this summer is Concerts in the Park, which is running eight consecutive Saturdays. This isn't new, but the 2026 lineup and the food-truck upgrade have quietly turned it into the anchor event of the Valencia summer.
Concerts in the Park is presented by Logix Federal Credit Union. This year marks the 36th summer of live music in Santa Clarita, making Concerts in the Park one of our longest-standing traditions. Join us every Saturday night at 7:00 p.m., beginning July 11 through August 29, as Central Park Fields 7 and 8 (27150 Bouquet Canyon Road) transform into Santa Clarita's premier outdoor concert venue. Food trucks will be on-site and open by 5:00 p.m., so you can make a full evening of it.
The tribute lineup for 2026, per the city: This summer's tribute band lineup includes Selena, Abba, Aerosmith, Elton John and The Police. The lineup runs from July 11 through August 29, with Saturday-night shows beginning at 7 p.m. and food trucks arriving by 5 p.m.

The concerts are free. The parking is not free of consequence. Fields 7 and 8 fill up early, and the food-truck line is the single biggest chokepoint after 6:15 p.m. Locals who go every week already know this. Locals who haven't been in a couple of summers do not.
A working Saturday-night rule: if you want a picnic spot within a blanket's throw of the stage, arrive by 5:45. If you want food from a truck without missing the opener, order by 6:30.
The city's fireworks anchor is still tied to the mall property, even as the mall itself is under construction. That combination is the trap.
Fireworks Date: July 4, 2026 Time: 9:15 p.m. Location: Valencia Town Center. Watch the magnificent fireworks show while listening to the soundtrack broadcast live on KHTS AM 1220. The synchronized-radio setup is a Valencia signature, but the parking geometry is different this year because of the construction footprint at the former Sears anchor. Residents who used to park at the mall and walk out into the show should scout an alternate approach from McBean Parkway or Valencia Boulevard, or plan on a longer walk.
The 4th of July Parade runs earlier in the day. The city's fireworks show is the evening event; the Star Spangled Nights programming at Six Flags Magic Mountain runs the same night as a paid alternative.

The farmers market piece matters because it's the counterweight to the mall-in-transition question. Every Saturday, year-round, 8:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Location: Old Town Newhall Library. If the Town Center feels half-finished on a given weekend, Old Town Newhall is fully operational and ten minutes down the road.
Valencia's weekend rhythm this summer isn't broken. It's rearranged. The mall's transformation is real, and by 2027 it will probably reclaim its role as the default anchor. But between now and Labor Day, the actual center of gravity is Central Park on Saturday nights, River Oaks for dinner, and the Town Center for a specific errand rather than an aimless afternoon. Residents who plan around that reality will spend the next six weekends well. Residents who don't will spend them stuck in a parking lot at the wrong end of the mall.
